Lumbar Strain

Postby yes_psalazar » Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:28 pm

Hello,

I am a 21 year old athletic male. I lift weights, run, box, etc. On December 28th I strained my lower back doing bent over barbell rows with bad form. I felt a strange twinge in the right side of my lower back (around 4 inches to the right of the spine). The doctor said it was a lumbar strain (only soft tissue injury- my discs are OK thankfully). I rested it for weeks, have been doing lower back exercises and stretches to stretch and strengthen it, as well as using ice and heat. Its gotten a lot better (from a bad lingering pain that extended to my upper right glute to pain from time to time that is mostly based in the spot of the initial injury). Despite the progress, I want my lower back to be back to normal (pain-free for good). It has been almost 4 months of this pain, and I was wondering if Ultrasound would help heal this injury once and for all. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hello Yes_Psalazar,

The portable ultrasound would be a great asset in getting rid of any type of strain or tissue injury that you have lingering in your lower back. The device will penetrate up to 4" below the surface of your skin and will work to reduce any swelling and edema to speed the healing process.

Although we do not recommend placing the ultrasound device directly over the spine at any time during treatment, you should be fine when treating your right lower back as it is a much more fleshy and muscular area. In this case you should probably take care when treating near the spine, and perhaps set the device to a lower intensity setting should you apply treatment within proximity to the spine.

I hope I have adequately answered your question. If you require any additional assistance please feel free to phone one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives toll free at 1-866-237-9608 or phone us directly at 705-445-3505.

Best of Luck in Healing your Lower Back!
