suitability of knee ultrasound with total replaced hips?

Postby ZAosteoknee » Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:46 am

Would it be Ok for someone who underwent a double hip replacement about 10 years back to use therapeutic ultrasound on a osteoarthric knee? Is there any posibility of heat damage to the replaced hips through utrasonic therapy on the knee?

The patient is an 82 years old woman who might not be a good candidate for surgery.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi,

The use of ultrasound over and/or near implants will never be recommended by us, as there is much potential for serious injury. The patient's physician may have their own opinion regarding this, and if you feel strongly about ultrasound, ask him/her as they know her best.

thank you,
Darren
